Stryker Lawsuits Consolidated in Florida Courts
Broward County FL Circuit Court Judge Marina Garcia-Wood released an order last October 3, 2013 approving the consolidation of 13 Stryker lawsuits in Florida courts. In relation to this, a federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) also consolidated a bigger number of lawsuits filed in federal courts across the U.S. The MDL is in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota overseen by Judge Donovan Frank.
All lawsuits contained in both MDL and Florida consolidation are filed by plaintiffs who were allegedly affected by the defective hip implants. Stryker hip devices were recalled in July 2012 due to numerous adverse reports that were documented by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Reports say that the recalled implants were prone to fretting of metallic components which might result in loosening of the device and damage to the surrounding bones. This may also lead to metallosis because of the metal ions making their way into the bloodstream.
